Fortnite Guide Issue #1 - Beginners Guide to Fortnite Part 1
Welcome to the first in the series of our Fortnite Battle Royale guide
Over the coming weeks we here at Sidequest TGC are putting together everything you need to know about Fortnite and how to play. We’ll be looking at several different areas of the Fortnite game starting from the basics to how to win the final circle.
With Fortnite Battle Royale being nearly 4 years old it’s probably one of the most played MMO (massively multiplayer online) games of all time. In April of last year (2020), Fortnite set its record for the most concurrent players when 12.3m players were online all at once.
So let’s get started with the first part of our beginners guide to Fortnite!
With millions of players already online we know it can be a bit daunting for new players to join in. So to assist you we have put together a beginners guide to get you started.
The first thing to understand is that the Fortnite continues to evolve and the map itself has been constantly changing since it was first launched in 2017, but the main core mechanics of Fortnite remain the same.
So in Part 1 of our Fortnite beginners guide we will be looking at:
- Spawn Island
- The drop
Spawn Island
The Spawn Island is where players will first gather before they drop in to the game. This is more of a waiting room as you wait for other players to join the game.
You will notice that there's plenty of ammo, weapons and building materials scattered around the spawn island just waiting to pick gathered. Now you can go around collecting all these items but sadly they won’t be joining you when you’re sent off to battle.
You’ll probably only be here for no more than a minute as you wait for 100 players to join, but it's a good time to test out the controls and have a little warm up.
The drop
The drop could well be one of the most important parts of the Fortnite. This is where players decide where to drop into the Battle Royale map. On the honk of the Battle Bus horn players can jump as and when they want to.
Our suggestion to new players would be to wait till the very last seconds before jumping. There’s several reasons for this… 1) You’ll have little or no other players to compete with. 2) You’ll have less competition for loot when you land meaning you can gather weapons and materials without fear of being shot in the face.
As your descending aim for a house or other structure. Here you have a higher chance of finding a chest or at the very least some basic loot. Simply land on the roof and use your pickaxe to break in.
Your glider will automatically deploy once you're a certain height from the ground so don’t worry about thinking you're plummeting to your death before you've even had a chance to fight. As you land it will fold away and you're good to go!
And that's it for the basics of Spawn Island and deploying to battle!
